The number of Kauai Hawaii homes for sale has seen a sharp increase in demand since improvements to the Lihue Airport allowed expanded commercial service in the early years of the millennium. Once limited to interisland flights and a few flights directly to the mainland, most travel to and from the island of Kauai was done via Honolulu. The stop on Oahu is no longer necessary thanks to the Lihue Airport runway extension that has opened the way for longer range flights to Kauai. This increase in direct flights has also increased the popularity of Kauai as a second home for part-time residents.

Besides several daily flights to Honolulu on Mokulele Airlines, go!, and Hawaiian Airlines, Kauai is now lucky to have daily non-stop service to Seattle/Tacoma, Los Angeles, Denver, San Francisco, and Phoenix, on Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta, United Airlines, and US Airways. Not only is travel to and from Lihue easier but the airport experience has also been improved thanks to improvements in the airport itself. New furnishings, signage, and other important upgrades have made flying more pleasurable and thus more appealing for those people looking to start a new life onKauai or have a second home in Hawaii.
